Meet Odoo 20. What it means for manufacturers

AI agents that do the data entry, a production floor that flows between work centres, and bills of materials you can finally compare side by side. Here’s our tour of the release, from the shop floor up.
By the Bloo Bananas team · 9 October 2026
Every September, Odoo shows the world its next major version, and this year was the biggest one yet. Odoo founder and CEO Fabien Pinckaers unveiled Odoo 20 on 24 September 2026 in the opening keynote of Odoo Experience at Brussels Expo, and it’s now available for both Community and Enterprise.
The official release notes run to hundreds of changes across more than 50 apps. Most of our customers make things for a living, so we’ve read the lot with one question in mind: what changes on Monday morning for a manufacturer?
AI that acts, not only answers
In Odoo 19, the AI could answer questions and draft text. In Odoo 20, AI agents can create and update records for you. Hand an agent a supplier PDF and ask it to raise the purchase order, or dictate a request by voice from the floor.
• Agents in your automations. Automated and scheduled actions can call an agent, and you can review its chat to see exactly what it did.
• Connect outside AI tools. Odoo 20 supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI assistants use to talk to business systems. Decide which users and data an agent may reach before you switch it on.
• Work with documents. Ask questions about a file while previewing it, or attach documents to an agent chat.
Budget note: Odoo’s release notes say all AI features now run on IAP credits, bought separately. We’ll help you size this before rolling AI out to a whole team.
Manufacturing: production that flows
With 24 changes, Manufacturing is one of the busiest apps in the release. These are the ones our customers will feel first.
Continuous production
Work orders now record a produced quantity. Tick Continuous Production on a bill of materials and the next operation can start as soon as the first units are ready, instead of waiting for the whole batch. For long runs, that means parts move from cutting to welding to paint in batches and your work centres sit idle less.

Planning that starts now
• Plan as soon as possible. Clicking Plan now books orders from today onward, and the order of your list sets the priority.
• New work order views. A Kanban board with a column per work centre, a drag-and-drop Gantt with clearer colours, and a planning view by employee.
• Redesigned MO Kanban. Orders are grouped by week, and each card shows component status, the active work centre, deadline and remaining time.
• Draft MOs from replenishment. Untick Auto Confirm Production and reordering rules create draft orders, so planners can review them before components are reserved.
Fewer clicks on the floor
• One Produce button. “Produce” and “Produce All” are merged across Manufacturing, Shop Floor and Barcode.
• Split and reset. Split an order in progress to finish the rest later, or reset a cancelled order to draft instead of starting again.
• Lots and serials on close. Odoo generates lot or serial numbers automatically when you close an order without entering one.
• Pack as you produce. Set a destination package on the MO and finished goods come off the line already packed.
Costing you can trust
A new Extra Cost field on the bill of materials adds a fixed per-unit overhead to every order made from it. The MO overview shows a single cost column (planned while running, actual once done), and subcontracted parts now include the cost of the components you send out. Production Analysis opens with cost per unit split into components, work centres, labour and subcontracting.
PLM: see every change before you approve it
If you manage engineering changes, this is the section to read twice.

• Compare BoMs. Select two or more bills of materials and see components side by side in one pivot. From an ECO, one button compares the current BoM with its revision.
• One change report with costs. The ECO Review button opens a single summary of every component and operation change, with the cost impact of each line and a total.
• Versions on your terms. When you apply an ECO, you choose which product and BoM versions to bump. Products now carry a Version field too.
• Where-used, fixed. The Used In button on a component lists the actual BoM lines, so you can swap a part across many BoMs at once.
Inventory: smarter stock, faster recalls

• Suggested min and max. Pick a demand period and Odoo proposes reorder levels from your history, days of coverage and order frequency. No more spreadsheets to set them.
• Stock aging report. A ready-made view in Moves Analysis shows how long stock has been sitting and what it’s worth.
• Traceability in one tree. Components upstream and finished goods downstream appear in a single report, with expiry dates included. Recalls get faster.
• Landed costs per product. Charge import duty to only the items it applies to, and late costs flow through to the cost of goods already sold.
• Multi-company resupply. One company can replenish from, or ship from, another’s warehouse, with valuation carried across correctly.
• Simpler returns and shelf labels. The return wizard is gone, and location barcodes print straight to Zebra label printers in ZPL.
Built for the floor and the field
Odoo 20 adds an offline mode: users can create, edit, archive and delete records without a connection, then sync when they’re back online. That’s a big deal for sheds and yards with patchy Wi-Fi. The mobile app has also been redesigned for touch, and you can share a photo of a docket or bill from your phone straight into Odoo.
Accounting for the finance team
• Parent accounts replace account groups for structuring your chart of accounts, and account codes become optional.
• Smarter bills. Odoo suggests bill lines from history and flags likely duplicates in red, with a check that stops paying the same bill twice.
• Bank reconciliation gets a summary report, and one bank line can now be split across several accounts.
Should you upgrade now?
Our advice depends on where you are today:
• New to Odoo: start on 20. You get the new features from day one and the longest support window, with standard support planned to September 2029.
• On Odoo 17: start planning. Standard support for 17 is scheduled to end this September.
• On 18 or 19 with customisations: test first. Odoo 20 removes record rules in favour of domains on access rights and changes how tracking works, so custom modules need checking on a copy of your database.
Our approach: We run every upgrade on a copy of your database first, test your real manufacturing flows with your team, and only then switch production.
